Hunting is protection of nature in action. By regulating animal population, hunters ensure existence of the greatest possible diversity of flora and fauna. The killing of sick or weak animals plays an important role. By doing so, diseases or even epidemics can be quickly curbed, and a healthy animal population can be guaranteed. This is often also an important contribution to landscape maintenance. Creating wild fields, fallow land, or biotopes do not only promote wildlife, but also offer an important habitat and shelter for a variety of small mammals, birds, amphibians, and especially insects. Dogs have always been loyal hunting companions, as they were originally also bred for exactly this purpose. However, selection has produced countless different hunting dog breeds over the last centuries. Each breed has its own specific purpose, but they all have one thing in common – they are indispensable helpers at hunting. A dog not only supports us in searching for or retrieving an animal, but also in helping us to track down the animal more quickly, which makes hunting more efficient and sustainable.
